Home In Need – $15,000 Charity Painting Project

Connecticut Home of Sergeant Roger Petrone Renovated and Painted

A.G. Williams Painting Company donates and coordinates “Home in Need” paint job

Greenwich, CT – (October 29, 2011) – Greenwich area resident Sergeant Roger Petrone dedicated his career to making a difference in his community, first as a fire department dispatcher and then by serving 17 years in the Greenwich Police Department. On 9/11, Sergeant Petrone volunteered to take the Greenwich police boat to New York Harbor and help patrol the waterways that day and into the night. A.G. Williams Painting Company, a recognized leader in the residential and commercial painting industry in Westchester and Fairfield Counties,  acknowledged Sergeant Petrone’s long-term contributions by naming him as its first “Home in Need”  recipient. The company, Sergeant Petrone’s fellow offices, and other members of the construction team recently celebrated the completion of the first phase of its work related to the award, including painting (retail value $15,000.00), at a Columbus Day BBQ at Sergeant Petrone’s home.

In a tragic turn of events five years ago, Sergeant Petrone was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s Disease (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, or ALS), a progressive neuromuscular disease that causes muscle weakness and eventual paralysis. The entire community has stepped up to help Sergeant Petrone and support ALS research with fundraisers such as 300-mile bike rides, softball games, and family walks.  Sergeant Petrone also receives assistance from the Greenwich Police Department and Greenwich Military Covenant of Care. In conjunction with the “Home in Need” award, A. G. Williams worked with representatives of the police department and Covenant of Care to renovate Sergeant Petrone’s home. A.G. Williams donated the crew and equipment for an interior painting of the entire first floor, including the kitchen, hallways, and den, of the two-bedroom, two-bathroom farm house. In early November, the A.G. Williams crew will be powerwashing the home’s exterior and painting the barn of the 1800s working farm, which has families of turkeys, chickens, and goats. Paint was provided by Ring’s End (www.ringsend.com), a New Canaan, CT, lumber, millwork, and building supply company, and by Benjamin Moore & Co. (www.benjaminmoore.com). The doors for the barn were donated by Ed’s Garage Doors (www.edsgaragedoors.com) of Norwalk, CT.

“We are grateful for the generous donation from A.G. Williams and for helping to make this home renovation project even more special,” says Mary Jane Huffman, co-founder of Greenwich Military Covenant of Care and Board Vice President.  “Sergeant Petrone is a highly deserving recipient of the “Home in Need” Award.”

“A.G. Williams is proud to honor Sergeant Roger Petrone with its first “Home in Need” award, recognizing his years of service in Greenwich, says Doug Kitchen, CT Account Representative. “I am deeply moved by Sergeant Petrone’s dedication and commitment to the community in the face of significant personal challenges.”
