Take the time to enjoy yourself this fall!
Fun Fall Projects (Kids Can be Included!)
Here are a few ideas to get you started:
Pumpkin Painting – The fun thing about this is that you can take your project as seriously or lightly as you’d like. An added benefit, if you’re spending time with little ones, is that there are no worries about them handling a knife or other sharp tool like there can be during the traditional carving process.
Throw a Fall Party – While Halloween parties tend to steal the show during this time of year, a traditional harvest party is an ideal way to have fun while also tipping your hat to the agricultural history of the region you’re from. Bobbing for apples, sharing pies, cider, cookies, or even competitions around eating a donut hanging on a string (yes, that’s a real thing!) are fun, classic ways to enjoy friends, family, and the season.
Roast Pumpkin Seeds – If you carve pumpkins rather than paint them, why not save your pumpkin seeds and try roasting them? There are a wide variety of recipes available, and they make a unique, delicious, and healthy snack!
Farmer’s Market – Visiting a farmer’s market as an adult is a great way to support local producers as well as find top-quality food and crafts. Visiting a farmer’s market with kids is also incredibly worthwhile as it instills the idea of the value of community, and creates a window into the world of where food really comes from.
Decorate! – Some really cool and rustic decorations can be made from items as simple as dried corn stalks. If you live near an active farm, why not talk to the owner and see if you can collect some of the fallen stalks after harvest? By bundling a few together you can create a very attractive decoration for a porch, balcony, or entryway.
