A.G. Williams Painting Company History

Four generations, one standard. The people, places, and decisions behind a painting company that has served local homes and businesses since 1906.

1904

A New Beginning

Arthur G. Ratsikas arrives at Ellis Island from Greece and begins learning the painting trade.

1906

A.G. Williams Painting Company Is Founded

Arthur hires his first employee and founds the company in New York City. He takes the Williams name from the Sherwin-Williams paint he used exclusively, a name customers already trusted.

1930s

Proving Loyalty Through Action

With little work to be had during the Great Depression, Arthur keeps all 12 employees on the payroll. Through the Depression and two World Wars, not a single employee is laid off.

1940s

Second-Generation Leadership

George A. Williams returns from military service and takes on leadership of the company, which he will lead for three decades.

1960s

A New Home Base and Broader Reach

The company relocates from New York City to Pelham, New York, extending its work across Westchester, Fairfield, and surrounding counties.

1970s

Third Generation, Same Commitment

Arthur G. and George P. Williams, grandsons of the founder, take the helm. Under their leadership, annual revenue grows more than tenfold within a decade.

1980s

Pelham Headquarters

A.G. Williams built its Fifth Avenue headquarters in Pelham to support the company's growing regional work.

1990s

Integrity Through Adversity

A.G. Williams weathers another recession, again without layoffs, and begins a run of consistent annual growth.

2006

A Century of Service

The company marks 100 years of trusted craftsmanship and commits to a new chapter of giving back to the communities it serves.

2008

Steady Through the Recession

The company keeps working through the financial crisis, hires painters laid off by competitors, and grows both its staff and its client base.

2010s

A Decade of Expansion

A.G. Williams launches concrete floor coatings and opens a second service center in Greenwich, Connecticut, to serve Fairfield County.

2014

Leadership Recognized, Community Served

George P. Williams is named a Best Boss in Westchester by 914INC., and the company is a finalist for the Westchester County Business Journal's first Family-Owned Business Awards.
