Service Overview
Wallpaper
A wallpaper project succeeds or fails on what happens to the wall itself—after the old paper comes down and before the new finish goes up. We plan removal, repair, and installation as one job, handled by the same career painters who finish the walls around it.
A.G. Williams is licensed and insured, and has worked in homes across Westchester County, the lower Hudson Valley, and Fairfield County since 1906.
What Wallpaper Work Includes
Removal
We check how the existing paper was hung, how many layers are on the wall, and the wall’s condition underneath, then strip it without tearing up the surface.
Surface repair
Walls are patched, sanded, smoothed, and primed so paint or new wallpaper goes onto a sound, even surface. You approve repair costs before work proceeds.
Installation
New wallpaper is planned around the pattern, corners, trim, fixtures, and the way the room is used—so seams land where they belong and the pattern lines up.
Pattern and ordering help
You select the paper before work starts. We measure the room and confirm the quantity with you, so the right amount is ordered the first time.
Paint coordination
Wallpaper, walls, trim, and ceilings are handled as one scope, so the room finishes together instead of in pieces.
Protection and cleanup
Floors, fixtures, and trim are covered while the walls are stripped, prepared, or papered, and each day ends with the room cleaned up.
How a Wallpaper Project Runs
Walkthrough
We review the room with you—the existing paper, the wall’s condition, the pattern direction, and any painting or trim work that should happen alongside it.
Written proposal
You receive a written proposal, typically within a few business days, that separates removal, repair, priming, installation, and related painting so expectations are clear.
Protected work
You help decide the sequence so the rest of the home stays usable. A field supervisor meets you before work begins, and you have direct phone numbers for the field supervisor and crew leader.
Closeout
We review edges, seams, repairs, and paint together before the room goes back into use, and confirm who to call if anything needs attention later.
Why Wall Prep Matters
Wallpaper projects fail when removal damage, old glue, and wall repairs are rushed. The finished result depends on what happens after the paper comes down and before the new finish goes up—and that is the part of the job nobody sees in the photo.

Wallpaper Questions
Does wallpaper have to be removed before painting?
Yes. Wallpaper must be removed before the wall is painted. We handle removal, wall repair, priming, and repainting in a single scope.
Can you install new wallpaper?
Yes. We install new wallpaper in single rooms, on accent walls, and on ceilings, and we plan the pattern around corners, trim, and fixtures before hanging begins.
What if the wall is damaged underneath?
We repair it before anything goes up. Walls are patched, sanded, smoothed, and primed after removal. Repair costs are itemized, and you approve them before work proceeds.
Who buys the wallpaper?
You select the paper before work starts. We measure the room and confirm with you how much to order, or coordinate the ordering together, so the right amount arrives the first time.
Can you do just one accent wall or a ceiling?
Yes. Single walls, ceilings, powder rooms, and full rooms are all common projects, and the proposal itemizes each area so you can decide what to include.
How messy is wallpaper removal?
Removal is wet, sticky work, so protection comes first. Floors, fixtures, and trim are covered before stripping begins, and each day ends with the room cleaned up and usable.
Can we stay in the house during the work?
Yes. The plan is built with you, so you can keep living in your home while the work happens. You help decide the sequence, and work stays contained to the rooms in the scope.
Do you paint the trim and ceiling at the same time?
Yes. Wallpaper, walls, trim, and ceilings can be handled as one scope with one team, so the room finishes together. The proposal itemizes each so you choose what to include.
How long does a wallpaper project take?
It depends on the room’s size, how many layers come down, the repair the wall needs, and the pattern being hung. The proposal lays out the expected sequence for your project.
Is the work warrantied?
Painting on your project is backed by the 5-Year Residential Paint Warranty. We stand behind our wallpaper work as well—if something is not right, we come back and fix it.
Can I finance the project?
Yes. Financing options are available; ask about 0%* plans. Financing is offered through Wisetack, subject to credit approval and published terms.
What happens if a seam lifts or an edge peels later?
Call us and we come back and fix it. Standing behind the work is part of the job, and it is why families have hired us across generations.
