So, estimating an interior versus an exterior project: they’re very similar. The biggest thing I would say is most exteriors have issues with landscaping, and you have to make sure that the guys are safe when they’re putting their ladders up. So it takes more time to look and evaluate their safety, as well as making sure the homeowner understands that when we’re working at different heights, it may require more labor to set up certain jobs. It may require scaffolding; it may require ropes.

There are different ways to approach a home. Most homes are done with ladders, and that’s it. But some homes require a higher level of standard.

Key Takeaways

What we evaluate on an exterior walkthrough

Safety and access shape every exterior proposal.

  1. 1

    Landscaping

Landscaping around the home affects where ladders can be set up safely.

  2. 2

    Crew safety

We take the time to evaluate how our painters can work safely at every height.

  3. 3

    Labor and setup

Higher or harder-to-reach areas can take more labor to set up, and we explain that up front.

  4. 4

    The right equipment

Most homes need only ladders. Some require scaffolding or rope access, which is planned into the proposal.
