Our story

How We Built Our Floor Coating System

Our floor coating work grew out of years of porch and floor painting and basic epoxies. In this short video, Nick Williams of A.G. Williams Painting Company explains how the team learned and developed its own system for concrete floor coatings.

So, concrete floor coatings: we really got into it about six years ago at this point, having had many experiences beforehand doing some lighter work, just doing porch and floor paints or basic epoxies. So we got really into it by actually learning and developing our own systems to install concrete floor coatings.

The general process comes down to the same basic steps: grinding the floor to open up the pores and remove all of the contaminants, repairing the concrete, and putting down the coating, which is generally a three-coat system, with a base coat, the broadcast media, generally a vinyl flake, and then a clear topcoat on top of that. It’s a quick process.

Key Takeaways

The same steps on every floor

Every installation follows the same proven sequence.

  1. 1

    Grinding

The floor is ground to open the pores of the concrete and remove contaminants.

  2. 2

    Concrete repair

Cracks and damage are repaired before any coating goes down.

  3. 3

    Base coat and flake

A base coat goes down first, followed by a broadcast of decorative vinyl flake.

  4. 4

    Clear topcoat

A clear topcoat seals the system. Installations generally take one to two days.
