Window glazing fails early when it is simply patched and painted. In this short video, Doug Kitchen of A.G. Williams Painting Company shows the extra steps we take on a 50-year-old home so the new glazing does not dry out and need repair again in two or three years.

Hi, this is Doug Kitchen from A.G. Williams Painting. I’m here at a client’s house I’ve been taking care of for about 10 years. These windows were never painted by us. The house is probably 50 years old.
Most painters would come in and just remove this loose glazing, reglaze, and paint. At A.G. Williams, we remove the glazing, then we prime this area, then we glaze, then we prime and put our finish coat on top of that. That ensures that the new glaze will not dry out and have to be repaired in two or three years. That’s why our jobs last for 8 to 10 years.
Key Takeaways
A few extra steps keep new glazing from failing early.
Loose, failing glazing is removed first.
The area is primed before any new glazing goes in.
New glazing is applied, then primed so it does not dry out.
A finish coat goes on top. Doug estimates the result lasts 8 to 10 years, compared with two or three for a quick reglaze.
